WENU

We are WENU, an artist collective working between Berlin and Hong Kong. Our work grows out of the cities we move through every day: their density, contradictions, rhythms, and countless overlapping stories. Under a shared conceptual umbrella, four individual artistic voices temporarily merge into a collective identity, allowing us to create works that none of us could produce alone. Many of our projects begin as loose sketches and open conversations rather than fixed concepts. In the studio and on the wall, ideas are constantly negotiated, challenged, abandoned, and rediscovered. Our process is shaped by improvisation, intuition, and the productive friction that emerges when four distinct perspectives occupy the same image. Meaning is often not predetermined but discovered during and after the act of making. This openness does not mean that our work is detached from content. On the contrary, every project develops through an engagement with its context, location, or a specific thematic framework. Questions of urban complexity, collective memory, perception, media narratives, contemporary myths, and social power structures repeatedly find their way into our work. Rather than illustrating these themes directly or communicating fixed messages, we create visual environments in which they can emerge, intersect, and remain open to interpretation.

Our visual language is defined by dense monochrome worlds composed of isometric architectures, recurring symbols, fragmented narratives, and countless figures inhabiting the same space. Through repetition, accumulation, and shifting scales, individual elements form larger systems that invite viewers to navigate between order and chaos, recognition and uncertainty. We work across murals, public art projects, studio works, and editions. Whether on a large-scale wall or a sheet of paper, our works remain records of a collective process: temporary moments in which four identities converge, negotiate, and become one.

WENU is not simply a group of artists. It is a shared artistic entity that exists in the space between its members.
